Collagen (protein) is a structural protein found throughout the human body. There are dozens of types of collagen that differ in structure, function, and composition. Type I collagen is the most abundant, found in the skin, hair, nails, bones, ligaments, and organs.
Collagen protein is mainly found in parts of animals that are less commonly eaten today, such as skin, bones, and tendons. Collagen is primarily made up of the non-essential amino acids glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline. It does not contain all essential amino acids and is therefore not a complete protein.
