Why take D3 and K2 together? | What are the benefits of vitamin D? | NoordCode Ultimate D3 + K2 drops | When to take it?
It took 2.5 years of research and testing before it hit the shelves: NoordCode Ultimate Vitamin D3 + K2. A unique formula – with K2 in both MK-4 + MK-7. Special, because you usually have to combine multiple supplements to achieve this effect.
In this article, you'll discover what vitamin D3 and K2 are good for, how they enhance each other, when best to take them, and what to look out for when choosing the best supplement.
Vitamin D3 and K2, why should you take them together? These fat-soluble vitamins have complementary roles. Vitamins D and K work together to maintain strong bones.
Vitamin D supports the absorption of calcium and phosphorus from food and promotes normal calcium levels in the blood. But absorption alone is not enough.
Vitamin K contributes to the incorporation of minerals like calcium into bones and bone tissue.
Vitamin D contributes to maintaining strong bones and supports calcium balance. But vitamin D has several other functions:
Moreover, vitamin D helps reduce the risk of falls, related to postural instability and muscle weakness. Falling is a risk factor for bone fractures in men and women over 60 years. (This effect is achieved with a daily intake of 20 mcg of vitamin D from all sources.)
Due to their combined action, the demand for D3 and K2 drops arose. NoordCode’s technical team worked for 2.5 years on the Ultimate D3 + K2 formula. With the combination of D3 from lanolin, K2 as MK-4 and MK-7, you have a unique vitamin solution in hand.

For the D3, we chose lanolin, a natural by-product of sheep’s wool. It’s not a vegan source, but it is sustainable. Lanolin is a residual product from shearing. This way we use an existing stream and avoid waste.
Vitamin K2 exists in multiple forms. MK-4 and MK-7 are the most researched. NoordCode Ultimate Vitamin D3 + K2 contains both:
In theory, you could obtain K2 from food. MK-4 is found in egg yolk, liver, and dairy from grass-fed animals. MK-7 is found in fermented foods like natto and blue cheese. These foods are hardly present in a Western diet. That’s why a supplement can be a practical addition to your diet to get both forms.
Be careful with vitamin K2 (MK-7): not every form is equally active – or natural. The ‘all-trans’ form is the biologically active variant. It’s best absorbed by the body.
The counterpart is the ‘cis’ form. It’s less stable and much less active. The higher the all-trans percentage, the purer and more effective the product. But not all all-trans MK-7 components are natural.
MenaQ7® is a patented formula, supported by 22 scientific studies. It is made from a natural source (from natto or chickpeas, fermented with Bacillus licheniformis) and has a high all-trans percentage (over 96%). That makes NoordCode Ultimate D3 + K2 truly unique among vitamin K2 supplements.
For MK-4 (menaquinone-4), there are no patented “superior” forms available with special bioavailability. The MK-4 used in supplements is always synthetic. There is no stable natural extraction source that is economically viable. It is always produced through fermentation or chemical synthesis. That’s why NoordCode uses the only raw material supplier of MK-4 that is used worldwide.
Finally, NoordCode uses cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil as a carrier. Unlike MCT oil, olive oil is absorbed through the lymphatic system – the same route D3 and K2 naturally follow. Rosemary extract protects the oil from oxidation and the brown glass bottle blocks light. This keeps your vitamins stable and effective.
The maximum permitted upper limit for vitamin D3 in the Netherlands is 75 mcg (3,000 IU) per day. NoordCode Ultimate D3+K2 contains exactly this amount in four drops. The advantage of D3 and K2 drops is that you can dose flexibly. You adjust the amount to your needs, possibly spread throughout the day.
What is good timing, and when is the best time to take D3 and K2? Both vitamins are fat-soluble. Therefore, it’s best to take this supplement with a meal that contains fat. There are indications that it’s advisable to take vitamin D3 and K2 at the same time of day. Many people prefer taking it in the morning or early afternoon, as D3 can have an activating effect.
